Soil: Clayey and limestone

Vineyard location: Irpinia, in the heart of the production area, in the Iampenne area of the municipality of Montemarano

Exposure and altitude: South-east at 500-550 meters (1,640-1,805 ft) a.s.l.

Vine age: 20 yrs. avg.

Vine training: Espalier with spurred cordon pruning

Density: 3,000 vines per hectare (2.47 acres)

Area: 0.5 hectare = 1.24 acres

Yield per hectare: 5 tons

Harvest: early November

Winemaking: The grapes are selected destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Maceration on grape skins, at uncontrolled temperature, takes 2-3 weeks, until the malolactic fermentation is complete.
The wine ages for 24 months in 10 hl oak barrels and then an additional 12 months in bottle before its release.

Organoleptic properties: Intense ruby red color. Wide and complex bouquet on the nose. It offers fleshy aromas of plums, sour cherries and black cherries with a bewitching note of spices, tobacco and tar. In the mouth, the natural freshness of the grape is accompanied by extremely fine tannins and balsamic notes.

Pairing: Suitable with wild game and aged cheeses; also goes well with hearty sauce dishes.

Tip: acquires more elegance if aged for a few years.
